Ferrari F1-86 V6 Turbo Scuderia Ferrari 2° Austrian GP 1986

Model with driver figure, comes with a premium acrylic display cover. The old Österreichring was nestled in such an idyllic landscape in Styria that the pictures from the 1980s might suggest that the Formula 1 cars were racing in the wild and not on a permanent race track. However, the fastest circuit of the Grand Prix season was getting on in years by 1986 and the drivers struggled considerably with the old tarmac of the track, which was consequently removed from the calendar after 1987. The bumpy track was a particular problem for Ferrari drivers Alboreto and Johansson. Although they had the most powerful turbo engine on the grid, Harvey Postlethwaite's chassis was considered a difficult case in 1986. Ninth place on the grid for the Italian and only 14th place for his Swedish team-mate spoke volumes and yet the race in Austria was to become Michele Alboreto's most successful of the year. The thirsty turbos of the competitors suffered from the once again reduced fuel quantity and electronic problems in 1986. In addition, the Scuderia mechanics changed tyres on the #27 Ferrari on lap 19 in a then record-breaking 7 seconds. From lap 33 onwards, Alboreto was already on course for a podium and when Keke Rosberg's McLaren stopped due to a short circuit with just 5 laps to go, the Milanese driver was delighted to finish second, albeit one lap behind winner Alain Prost.
