March 761B Cosworth V8 F1 Sportsman Lager German GP Hockenheim 1977
Raceland Gold Edition made by Spark. Exclusive model.
Ian Scheckter - the older brother of 1979 Formula 1 World Champion Jody - had already won everything in his native South Africa when he made his first Formula 1 starts for Lotus and Tyrrell at his home Grand Prix at Kyalami between 1974 and 1976. The 1977 season was the first opportunity to contest a full F1 season for March in the Rothmans International team. The new March 771 was only ready for the Belgian GP and proved to be a flop, so the South African competed in the old March 761B in Rothmans International colours for most of the season's races.
After Niki Lauda's fire accident in 1976, Formula 1 had moved from the Nürburgring Green Hell to Hockenheim for 1977. As in the previous year, there was a ban on tobacco advertising at the German GP, which some teams responded to by temporarily masking off some of their lettering. Ian Scheckter instead brought the South African brewery Sportsman Lager into play, which made a one-off appearance at this race to replace the blue Rothmans design. A retirement with clutch problems was to characterise the whole season and Ian Scheckter ended his F1 career at the end of 1977.
